5 tips to plan your trip during a pandemic

For too long our travel plans have been stopped in their tracks…

For too long we’ve cried over cancelled holidays…

For way too long we’ve been stuck inside staring out the window, wishing we were sipping all inclusive cocktails by the hotel pool…

It’s time to pull ourselves together, get back on the internet and start planning trips
Even during a pandemic, planning a vacation can make us happy – even happier than a Monday morning Amazon delivery.

I’m calling it the Plandemic.

Looking ahead to your next adventure can be good for your mental health, even if you don’t know when that adventure might be. Excitement flutters through us when we imagine it, think about it and talk about it!

Check out my 5 trip planning tips below for some of the things you should be thinking about.

Trip Tips:

Where and what
As the future of post-pandemic travel is unmapped, perhaps for now we need to just decide where to go and what to do, without getting attached to when to go. Only when the virus has simmered down should we start booking flights and hotels – because as soon as it starts getting stressful or depressing, then it’s time to stick a pin in it and come back to the idea.

Use a travel agency
They’ll help ease the stress for you if the pandemic strikes back. They can contact airlines when flights are cancelled or pushed back, keep in touch with your hotel and give you travel information you might not have known if you booked yourself online.

Top 10
Find the top 10 things to do at your destination on a trip advisor. You might not want to do all of them, but researching could give you some inspiration for your own top 10. Alternatively, some of these places may be over crowded, so it might be best to check if you can do private tours or go at a less-popular time.

Excursions
Check if the touristic activities you want to do are actually running before you book them. Most will be as they need need to bring the money back into the area but it’s worth a triple check. I’d hate for you to go all the way there to try out something in particular and it be cancelled. Try booking when you get there through a representative, they can advise on the best times to go and prices on the market. Also, these popular excursions may be very crowded with holidaymakers not wearing their face coverings, so you may need to decide if you want to put yourself in that risky situation.

2 week consequence
While you’re planning your destination and itinerary – don’t forget to plan your time when you get back. Will you have to self isolate for 2 weeks? If you do, can you work from home? Will you have to cancel plans on your return? Guidelines are changing without notice, so check which countries ask you to self-isolate after visiting and keep a watchful eye out while you’re away.

So get excited and get planning your next adventure. If lockdown’s getting you down, this is sure to lift your spirits and give you something to dream about for next… however long?!

Peace out!
